As the years go by and the Iron Curtain becomes more deeply ingrained, Hanna's family finds itself trapped in an oppressive regime, enduring the hardships of surveillance, censorship, and limited freedom. Meanwhile, Hanna's journey to the West leads her to a new life in America, where she starts a family of her own and experiences the contrasting freedoms and opportunities that exist outside the oppressive Eastern bloc.
